||Vagos Open Air (PT) confirmed
||Unia rehearsal diary (week one: 19. - 22.9.2006)
All right, here we go again. Our rehearsal-camp starts tomorrow, but since it's quite a drive from where I live, I drove up here today bringing with me some new and a lot of old equipment from back home. Marko and Jani also dropped by later in the evening and we listened to some demos of the new songs while sipping on some.....tea (bet ya didn't see that one coming).
Anyways tomorrow at noon, our techs will be dropping off our live gear and we'll probably spend the day setting up the stuff and getting the monitoring to work properly. All in all we will spend 4+ weeks rehearsing and then taking a week off before the recording sessions starts, or at least that's what's planned, you never know what'll happen.
A little bit about the location without giving up too much.......or should I ? We've rented a place in the woods of northern Finland = in the middle of nowhere. We have separate living and working facilities as some of us will live here for the most part of the rehersals. That's about all I can say about this place right now, you'll probably see some footage from here on our next dvd which will be out within the next 10 years or so.
Ok, time to dig into some sopranos or some other dvd's I dragged with me from home.
se on moro,
The guys arrived around noon with all the stuff and we spent most of the day rigging it up. In addition to all the obligatory noodling nonsense we actually managed to go through a couple of songs but the real work should start tomorrow. What else...hmm...Marko is moving in later today and we planned to write charts for some of the songs. We'll see what comes out of that, probably we just end up playing heads-up poker or watching dvd's or whatever. Btw the weather is pretty shitty, in case any of you wondered. Regardless of that, the whole wild bunch seems to be well rested and in good spirits. Before 'Reckoning Night' we didn't rehearse that much and had around 3 songs ready when we started recording, so this boot-camp should make a big difference both musically and timewise. It's maybe a bit early to reflect on such things at this time, but it never hurts to be optimistic (or maybe that's one of the most dangerous pitfalls, who knows ?). Ok, I'm tripping here, I gotta go and look for the bear that has been spotted around here to find someone to wrestle with.
Woke up tired as usual, we stayed up 'til about 4 in the morning, doing stupid shit. No additional comments here. Jani was sick but we continued working as expected, hopefully he's back in business tomorrow. A dude is making a documentary about this recordings etc and he dropped in for the first time today, shooting footage throughout the day. At first it was a little distracting but we forgot about him being there pretty quickly, concentrating on the work at hand.
Tony & Tommy left at around 16:30, having played around 6 hours me & Make took a little break. Around 19:00 our production manager/lightning guy Punkki dropped in with a friend of his for some coffee and talks (sometimes we're almost like a bunch of grannies at the bingo). Later I wrote the charts for another song with Make, so we can check that out tomorrow. We also practised a few spots from the previous songs... ...anyway now it's 22:30 and time to kick back as soon as I get this done. Anyway I'll drop a few lines tomorrow as well before we head home to spend the weekend.
The last day before the weekend-break was pretty good, although Mr J was still sick and thus absent. We checked out another new song, and that makes it three songs that are more or less ready. We have to keep the pace with about one song/day to stay on schedule, so far no problem. The day went by pretty quickly, some filming was done for the documentary and soon enough it was time to head home. I have around 4 hours by car so it was nice to get going before dark. Anyway this is all for week one, cheers.
